At first, I didn't think that Brightcove has any different from Youtube. But the channel is a good idea for advertising. We can know many websites from the categories, and I got two interesting sites.

Realmeals.tv is a video cookbook. It's just like some TV programs. It showing what the process is and how to cook. But realmeals.tv is a internet channel, so you don't have to memorize the recipe and can watch it anytime you want to cook. This is a good way to apply the online video, and it does some different from TV.

Marvel Entertainment has a great attraction to me. It uses Brightcove to show its short films like trailers or funny stories. You can find them by Brightcove instead of Marvel's official site because there are too many items in the official site to view videos. In this case, I think Brightcove could be served as a website video searcher.

Brightcove has so many cooperation with other websites, so it is very different from Youtube. It lets those companies use its media technology to advertise themselves, so I think it may gain revenue from them by this way. This is really a good site for users and companies.

Sometimes I consider that, one day if I can see all TV programs via internet, why do I need TV?

Of course, it is very hard to let you get every TV program on the internet. After all, it needs a extremely high speed internet to keep the high quality as TV shows. But if it is quick enough, I will try to get my program from TV websites. This is convenient for me because I don't watch TV so much. I think it is possible because you can find some part of the show in Youtube or other streaming video site now. If everyone can watch programs by streaming media, maybe we don't need TV anymore.

However, in the view of film maker and audience, I think it is impossible to do that. For me, I don't like to get constrained by the time of certain program every week. But for some people, they like to sit on the sofa and search something interesting. That means, sometimes watching TV has no certain target. On the contrary, to find some programs on the internet has its purpose to search. Thus, these two behaviors are totally different in essence. From the view of the film maker, surely they would like people to buy DVD after they watch it. If the programs can be watched on the internet, companies will hard to get extra revenue unless they need payments.

In my opinion, streaming media is a good idea for people to watch video online, but the video is limited in some genres. In the video site, we can see lots of video shared by amateurs and some special parts of the shows or movies. To replace TV, I think there is a long way to go.

You may have heard about Final Fantasy, which is a famous video game. About two years ago, the company made a real like animation movie named "Final Fantasy VII Advent Children" and you can see its site here. Although this is made in Japan, there are some English tag and you can know what they are.

I like this design because they use many video clips in every tag. This makes it look vivid. With the calm music, it provides a special feeling to let you know what movie it is. To make this kind of environment, it is hard to present by html pages because you have to insert many video clips with other way. So I think this is a good use of flash page. With flash, it can be very beautiful and special, and I'm sure it passes its message very well.

When saying the disadvantage of flash, I always say that it takes too long time to download. And also, we can't link to any content pages directly. Once you leave the page, you have to find it from entrance again. So the flash site is not a good way to show too many content. But for this kind of promotion website, I think it is a good way to show. After all, we don't need to visit it many times.

Besides flash webpage, there are some little games using flash too, like bloons in Ninja Kiwi which is one of my favorite little games. So there are many way to use flash, and I think they are really effective.

When talking about Taiwanese video site, I'll say Vlog is the most famous one. While "blog" stands for "web log," "vlog" means "video log." This means, they would like users to use video to make their diaries. Thus, this is the site for sharing video, music, and photo. There are also forums in this site for people to chat. Comparing with Youtube, Vlog integrates many other services so that some Taiwan people use Vlog instead of Youtube.

Vlog's advantage is its multiple services, but I don't like it. I import a video, and you can see why.

Before you play video, you will see the advertise text. What's more, the text is the political news, which is I dislike the most. It's so ridiculous, and that is too annoying for me to import Vlog's video. And also, it's so hard for me to watch the video. Although it uses streaming media, the download speed is very slow. Maybe that's because I'm not in Taiwan, but I think they who live in Taiwan will feel comfortable to watch Youtube.

How to improve Vlog? I'll say please remove the advertise first, and then make the speed fast. I think it is a good idea to set forums in the video site, and user can use album and share music, too. It's a good reason to form a community, but I hope the advertise can be lessened. The less the ads appear, the better it will be.

Recently I often watch nicovideo, which is the Japanese streaming video, because this is a very interesting video site. Unfortunately, you can't view this site unless you register, but I can introduce it.

The greatest feature of nicovideo is, you can add comments "into" the video directly, just like the words in the picture below.

>

Nicovideo

This kind of comment is totally different from the comment in other video sites. Since you can add it to the video, this means that you can know how user think about the certain part of the video. Sometimes you even can "chat" with other comments, just like you are watching with many people. These comments reserve for about one day, so every time you come here, you will see different comments. Of course, if you think they are annoying, you can close the comments and enjoy the video.

I like this site because combining video and real time comment is a great idea. You can know how other people feel when you are watching, and you can add your opinion, too. However, when the video is famous, there will be many words on the screen and block your sight. And also, because everyone can post comment, there is no way to control what they can say. At least for Japanese people, I don't think they would like to see any Chinese or Korean on it. In this case, nicovideo need to improve the interface. Nicovideo needs account to login, but it won't show their ID when commenting. It might be a good way to let everyone know who is talking so that they can tell the administrator to stop some impolite behaviors.

In fact, nicovideo is still testing now, and the amount of user is limited. So far I'm very comfortable to watch video with many words. I will be glad to see if there is a better system for them to improve.
